Bar graph- which paper absorbs best? 1st class

After carrying out the experiment 'Which paper absorbs best?' we decided the best way to record the results would be on a table. Prior to carrying out the experiment we estimated which paper would absorb best. We then carried out the experiment and after placing the results in the table, decided to show them on a bar graph. We had not practiced these in maths yet and so we did the bar graph as a whole class activity on the whiteboard.

Bar Graph- Favourite Starch Food- 2nd & 3rd Class

In second and 3rd class we did our survey of our favourite starch food. The children had a choice of cereal, bread, pasta or potatoes. We illustrated these on a graph that each child made individually. The results are as follows. Our least favourite was pasta with a tie on scores between bread, cereals and potatoes.

Can taller people's lungs hold more air than shorter people? - 3rd+ 4th

3rd and 4th collected height data and lung capacity data for their class.
They stored this in Excel.

Teacher introduced the scatter graph to the class and we predicted what way the scatter graph would look if taller people's lungs did in fact hold more air.












We then discussed how it would look if there was no relationship



Our graph looks like this (with height in cm on Y axis and lung capacity in ml on X axis)
We believe there is no relationship between height and lung capacity, but we notice that the smallest lung capacity is in some of the shorter people

 

Making and navigating a maths trail - 3rd+4th/Junior+Senior infants

The 3rd and 4th class made a maths trail for the junior and senior infants and helped them navigate it.

Making the trail

The 3rd and 4th class were given a list of parameters within which to make the trail. These were (for junior infants)

No numbers > 6 (junior inf.) 20 (senior inf)
Identify colours
Identify rectangles, squares circles and triangles
Compare (2 only junior infants, 3 for senior infants) items by length, size, height, colour, texture(rough or smooth)

A similar set of parameters were made for senior infants

Each 3rd/4th pair made  a trail of 10 questions.

Navigating the trail

Each pair from 3rd and 4th helped a group of infants navigate the trail, acting as reader and scribe
